Omni Development Company, Inc. was selected by the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) as the design/build contractor for their $25,000,000 corporate headquarters project. The scope of work for this 180,000 square foot mid-rise commercial office building included selection and direction of architects and engineers, bidding plans and specs, buying out the job and direct supervision of construction.

Compatibility with the surrounding historic architecture was a major challenge. Located between turn-of-the-century and art deco style buildings, the DASNY building has its own character while blending with the styles of its neighbors. Its exterior is clad with stone and tinted glass windows. Stone is used at the spandrels and columns, with various colors and textures breaking up the building mass into a scale compatible with neighboring structures.

The main entry lobby provides a security desk, newsstand, and sundry shop, while the remainder of the ground floor has a loading dock, storage space, incoming services, building and grounds maintenance area and mailroom. A 16-foot high mechanical penthouse on the roof houses elevator equipment and the heating/air conditioning system.

The six-story building offers clear views of the Hudson River and downtown Albany. Design and construction completion were accomplished in an unusually fast time of 15 months.
